Massive Protection

I fell in love with Massive Attack right around the time Protection came out. I didn't listen to their freshman effort Blue Lines until many years later, and it always paled in comparison to me. Protection has to be one of the coolest CDs I've ever smoked myself into a coma to.

Folder includes:
  • Protection
  • Radiation Ruling The Nation (Protection)
  • Karmacoma
  • Bumper Ball (Karmacoma)
  • Three
  • Trinity Dub (Three)
To celebrate this breathtaking moment in electronic music history I've combined the first three songs from Protection -- arguably the best three on the album -- and included their respective remixes from No Protection, MA's collaborative effort with the Mad Professor.

So sit back, queue it up, and smoke one for me.

Or three.

Wendy & Lisa

I have to admit I haven't really listened to anything Wendy & Lisa has done since their 1989 CD Fruit At The Bottom. I know they dropped a new CD last year, and it sounds amazing, but I haven't had a chance to nab it just yet.

That's OK, because all I really wanted was to briefly relive the finer moments of their 1987 eponymous release as well as scrounge for a few remixes & b-sides.

Folder includes
  • Honeymoon Express
  • Honeymoon Express (12" Mix)
  • Sideshow
  • Sideshow (Dance Mix)
  • White
  • To Trip Is To Fall (Edit)
  • Everything But You
  • Light
I'm not super fond of the Honeymoon Express 12" Mix -- I include it here for true audiophiles. I think the album version is so, so much better. Having said that, the Sideshow remix rocks the fucking house. To Trip Is To Fall was the b-side of their Honeymoon Express single and sounds suspiciously like a pre-Revolution breakup demo. Everything But You is far and away my favorite song on the LP, and serves as a microcosm of the stunning production and songwriting talent involved here.
