Class Of '93

To keep myself busy (and amused) while battling the crushing void of unemployment, I've taken it upon myself to plumb the depths of my CD and MP3 collection to make the ultimate mixtape. What am I looking for? I'm so glad you asked.

I am working on an old-school, '93-and-back, super fabulous, techno/breakbeat rave hysteria megamix. It will be the mixtape to end all mixtapes, and it will unleash an outbreak of suddenly-recovered, drug-addled memories among an otherwise non-nostalgic population of 30 to 40 year-olds around the world. Or, you know, maybe just in Minneapolis.

Hey, all you aging children of hippies. Remember when you bought your first tab of ecstasy? It was the same week you bought your first rave compilation CD. Remember Only For The Headstrong? Ho
w about Rave 'Til Dawn? Aww, yeah. You were there. Admit it. You came of age about five minutes after acid went out of style, and about ten minutes before breakbeat hysteria shed it's helium-driven piano divas and evolved into jungle. You know who you are.

I've been working on this mix around the clock, which is why I haven't been blogging. And a blog should be kind of like a diary, so here I am. I also have an interview for a "real" job this morning, and another one coming down the pike next week. So I may be torn away from my life's work -- er, this fun project -- for a while.

The mix will be about 45 minutes long, but each song is only given about twenty seconds to shine. So it's going to be quite the whirlwind. Here's a smattering of some featured artists:

  • L.A. Style
  • Moby
  • Altern-8
  • Bizarre Inc.
  • Messiah
  • Prodigy
  • Smart E's
  • Utah Saints
I'll be sure to post a blog when I've finished it to let everybody know where to find it online. I'm not sure I know how to host an MP3, but I'll totally make it available for streaming. You hookers I know in real life get a copy on CD. Everybody else can suck it.

Have a nice day!
